Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is the application of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the manufacturing industry, across energy, smart city and transportation use cases. In the IIoT, a network of devices equipped with smart sensors collect and exchange data that can be used to inform important decisions, as well as provide a deeper understanding of optimization opportunities.

The IIoT is a key driver of Industry 4.0, the industrial revolution defined by increasingly automated and connected technology to streamline manufacturing processes. Manufacturers rely on the IIoT to support many capabilities, including:

  • Predictive maintenance
  • Remote monitoring
  • Supply chain management
