The Domain Name System (DNS) is an organizational framework that names any technology device and IT infrastructure asset that can be accessed on the internet. When typing in a web address URL (e.g. www.insight.com), the DNS framework, or web protocol, matches that URL address with an IP address to establish a connection with the requested web server.
DNS plays an important role in both the infrastructure of the internet and IT ecosystems that live on the internet. Domain registrars and hosting providers support DNS and IT teams to name and set up technology resources, including computers and servers.
