A healthcare data company that provides a self-serve research analytics service needed to replace its 50+ petabyte on-premises database that stored personal health information from multiple customers. This legacy Teradata solution was brittle, expensive, hard to scale and needed refactoring to meet business needs.
The organization identified the cloud to replace its on-premises solution and partnered with Insight to guide the migration and set up the new cloud system. We developed a scalable data solution using Azure Synapse Analytics and safely migrated the sensitive health data using a step-by-step process that encrypted individual tenant data before pushing it to the cloud.
The new system is designed to centrally store data in the cloud before pushing it to Azure Data Lake Storage and Azure Synapse Analytics instances that the organization’s customers will use. Before data moves to its assigned lake, Azure Data Factory and Databricks are leveraged to process, validate and tokenize the information — creating a scalable system.
Now, the healthcare company has a clear, simple, elastic architecture that provides customers individual Synapse Pools. Without the limitations of its on-premises solution, the organization can scale to meet service-level agreements and drive more value to its end users.
