Defining IT & technology terms

Choose Your Own Device (CYOD)

Choose Your Own Device (CYOD) is a hardware management model in which employees select a preferred device from a company-approved range of options. CYOD programs can include computers, tablets and smartphones.

Many IT administrators see CYOD as a moderate alternative to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy. Though the number of options is typically limited, CYOD enables employees to choose hardware they are comfortable working on without creating additional management and security responsibilities for IT.
