For this growing software services firm, being able to scale to meet new and existing customer needs has become more important than ever. This client provides infrastructure monitoring to some of the biggest industry leaders in the Managed Service Provider (MSP) space with innovative software. For a cloud-native organization with its most critical workloads in AWS®, cloud consumption and its associated costs were top of mind.

At the same time, business leaders had a goal to reallocate cost savings toward business improvement and innovation — giving them a huge leg up in a fiercely competitive market. After engaging with Insight about the business trajectory and current cloud landscape, a FinOps solution was crafted.

This trailblazing AIOps company leverages its cloud-native platform to enable MSPs with infrastructure monitoring technology. Whether it’s workflow automation or better visibility, providing customers with a scalable, innovative solution is this client’s top priority.

Leveraging FinOps for cloud cost containment 

Starting with a FinOps workshop, Insight collaborated with the client to uncover how the organization was leveraging AWS for different workloads, especially those most critical to development and engineering teams. Through this deep dive, different areas for cloud consumption cost containment were identified for refactoring into savings plans or Reserved Instances. This would allow the client to reduce costs associated with on-demand cloud compute options by offloading less time-sensitive workloads to a discounted plan. Insight also negotiated an Enterprise Discount Program (EDP) deal on behalf of the software firm, unlocking additional cloud savings with a ramp up included. This would support continued scalability for the business’s growing footprint.

This FinOps engagement resulted in the client choosing Insight as its AWS partner going forward to support its continued growth.

The outcome: Strategic reinvestments into a growing business

Given the cloud consumption changes made, this client would save approximately $500K over two years without impacting its ability to run critical workloads. These savings will allow the company to reinvest in its growing business to maintain a competitive edge — including being able to scale to meet customer needs and enhancements to its software platform.

With these future modernization and services plans on the horizon, Insight continues to engage with the client about the possibility of a residency program to support development teams, as well as other software and hardware needs.
