The main benefit of VMware Partner Connect is that is much easier to work with VMware as a partner, improving the customer experience and increasing profitability. You can now easily extend services across the VMware portfolio with access to the resources you need for your customers.
With Partner Connect, VMware is moving from a fairly heterogeneous system with multiple partner programmes for individual business models to one consolidated partner programme focused on value delivery throughout the customer lifecycle. The programmes used to be quite complicated for partners with multiple route-to-market strategies. For example, if you are part of the VMware Cloud Provider Program and you are also part of the Solution Provider Program, you are faced with different requirements, fees, incentive models, contracts, etc. Partner Connect solves this problem.
VMware Partner Connect is based on the concept that benefits VMware partners who invest in their VMware capabilities. The more you invest, the more you get in return. Partner Connect has three partner levels – or reward tiers – related to partner mastery and maturity: Partner, Advanced and Principal Partner. They are preceded by an enrolment phase during which you qualify for the programme as an Enrolled New Partner. Once Enrolled Authorized, you are ready to proceed to the Partner Connect mastery tiers.
Each level has solution competency and tier credits requirements. If you invest and expand your capabilities and meet sales and consumption thresholds, you can earn additional benefits. Once you achieve Principal Partner status, you will earn comprehensive benefits, including development funds, educational co-investment and badging. Being a Principal Partner means that you have achieved VMware Cloud Verified status, delivering cloud services powered by the full VMware SDDC stack, including VMware vSphere, vCD, vSAN, and NSX. This status identifies you as the go-to partner for VMware for customers and entitles your company to joint business planning and co-selling opportunities with VMware. Only the Principal Partner tier is recognized and badged externally.
VMware Partner Connect is further simplified with only three business models: for Resellers, Cloud Providers and Services-only partners. As a partner you choose which business model(s) suit(s) your company. You have the flexibility to add or change business models as your service offering changes over time and you want to tailor your business models to meet customer needs.
As the IT business changes, VMware Partner Connect will evolve. New, asset-light (MSP) services are being introduced, either hosted by VMware or by a public cloud offering as well as VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud, which was integrated into Partner Connect in early June. And more developments will follow.
