Video 1: An emerging IoT theme
One emerging theme is the increasing perspective that IoT is about greater visibility and use of data already being generated, and does not need to always be concerned with new hardware and sensors.
This has opened up IoT adoption to a much broader range of industries – not just the typical asset-heavy industrial organisations with massive sensor networks.
Video 2: Holistic and broaden transformation through IoT
IoT solutions cannot exist in a vacuum – they’re highly dependent on capabilities provided by other service lines and technical expertise.
Effectively framing and delivering IoT solutions requires a coordinated team effort that considers all aspects of the solution, from low-level device integration all the way up to business processes, communication and organisational change to be successful.
Video 3: Design Thinking and User-led approach
Design thinking and a user-led approach to an IoT initiative, helps break down silos and bring all your capabilities to bear on every project. You’d be surprised and amazed at just how many potentially valuable features are being overlooked in projects due to being driven by only a narrow range of expertise.
Think bigger. Can this platform or solution do more? Can we deliver greater value? Have we thought about how else the data could be applied? What about enhancing the user experience?
Video 4: IoT as an approach
IoT is an approach. It’s not all about devices and platforms and technologies.
Look at how your organisation could benefit from greater real-time visibility over your operations, and how you could start automating and optimising if you had better access to real-time data.
Video 5: Technical and soft skills
It is important to choose a scalable and extensible platform like Microsoft Azure for your IoT initiatives, however you also need to consider soft skills around design-led thinking and the user experience, the graphic design, business process, business analysis, change and communication management. These capabilities are needed to balance out and ensure the solution is valuable, not just operationally viable.
Pick a small but meaningful use-case and just get started. The use-case does not have to be complicated or time-consuming, but it can be enormously valuable.
